1. I am a dancing machine.

If there is music, I will get down. I'm like a boogie ninja photographing weddings and events, blending in on the dance floor as I shake my way through the crowd, dancing like the rent is due and SNAP! grabbing candid shots from unsuspecting guests.

2. I will make best friends with your kids.

Hanging out with kids is one of my favorite things. Almost all of my clients tell me that after I leave, their kid(s) ask when they get to hang out with me again. In fact, my favorite review ever comes from 7-year-old Donovan who, when I asked him what his favorite part of their day in the life session had been, replied: “Being with you.” My heart exploded into infinitesimal bits.

3. I am mother to the coolest kid on the planet.

My son Jury is super smart, hella funny, and legitimately better at math than I am. He's also on the autism spectrum and it is through him that I discovered just how perfect documentary photography is for kids on the spectrum – he doesn’t have to smile or pose or wear itchy clothing. He just has to be him. Because of Jury, I am happy to partner with the Autism Society of Colorado and to shoot for Spectrum Inspired.

4. I cry. A lot.

I cry at commercials. I’ll cry at your wedding. I even cried at the ending of Bring It On (no, really). I’m just absurdly empathetic which, luckily for me, comes in quite handy in my line of work. And seriously (SPOILER ALERT!), the Clovers really did deserve that win.

5. I drink Bud Light.

There. I said it. Please still hire me.

“Sam is an incredibly gifted documentary photographer. She’s masterful at blending right into whatever’s happening - not as an invisible fly-on-the-wall, but as a lovely, fun person who sets you at ease immediately, whether she’s hanging out during quiet family time or belting out show tunes with party guests. The kids took to her immediately, as did our friends. Most importantly we adore the photos from our session - Sam has an uncanny eye for framing and color as well as capturing honest, evocative moments, and it’s that combination of artistry and documentary that sets her apart among “day in the life” photographers. We’ve already booked her for another session - we’d gift sessions with Sam to everyone we know if we could!” - Cynthia, Day in the Life client, Boulder, CO
